Scale Model Reveals Details of Aragon's Eighty One Wellesley

Earlier this year, we were provided a sneak peek at the presentation centre for Aragon's Eighty One Wellesley, a 28-storey, Core Architects-designed condominium tower in Toronto's Church-Wellesley Village. At that time, a technician from Myles Burke Architectural Models was on hand assembling a scale model. Since completed, it now serves as the centrepiece of the presentation centre.

The model shows visitors just how the building's volumes both come together and are set off from each other, maximizing the northern and southern exposures desire the building's relatively deep north-south lot. The model will allow prospective purchasers, of course, to see how the views of the city from their suite would work.

At the base of the scale model, the building's relationship with Wellesley Street East is depicted with a furnished patio reaching out to the sidewalk. The overhanging podium structure will be supported by four large double-height columns, creating a street-fronting 7.5-metre-wide forecourt and patio with outdoor seating and a water feature. Above, clad in an irregular latticework of punched dark-hued brick, the podium's glassed-in balconies reference the Modernist residential architecture seen on several area apartment buildings while updating the look.

Above the podium, the two-storey indoor and outdoor amenities occupying the 7th and 8th floors can be seen. With supporting columns lifting the tower floors over the partially sheltered terrace, indoor amenity spaces take advantage of full glass walls to merge the city outside with the private by neighbourly facilities for residents. The range of spaces here celebrate both the neighbourhood as a whole and the possibilities of the building itself. Inside boasts a fitness studio with a view, a gourmet kitchen and dining area for parties, and a grand two-storey lounge for relaxation and entertainment. Outside, the terrace boasts plenty of space to sit back and relax, or to barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal over the vibrant Church Wellesley Village.

The tower will make its mark with white precast panels framing expanses of glazing. As the tower nears its peak, the massing gradually reduces, with stepbacks above the 22nd, 26th, and 27th levels, before terminating in the recessed mechanical penthouse above.
